From fitness app to Neuroscience Game-
Designing Level's Gamified Self-improvement Experience
End-to-End Design Lead: User Research, UX/UI, and Visuals

Level is a unique app that combines neuroscience with activity-based games to promote self-improvement and emotional regulation. I joined Level's product team at the ground floor, when it was still a conceptual fitness brand. Witnessing the product's evolution into a science-backed gamified experience was an incredible journey.

As the lead designer, I played a multifaceted role across the entire design process. This project presented a unique challenge: to create a visually appealing and engaging experience that was also rooted in scientific principles.

Research & Dicovery

I began the design process with a thorough market analysis of existing fitness and gamified apps, identifying best practices and areas for improvement. We also collaborated with a wellness expert to gain insights into user needs and challenges related to self-improvement and emotional regulation. This research informed the design decisions throughout the project.

Information Architecture

I worked with the project manager closely to developed a user-friendly information architecture that would guide users through the app's onboarding process, activity selection, and progress tracking. We focused on creating a clear and intuitive navigation system to ensure users could easily find the features they needed.

Wireframing & Prototyping

To begin ideating the structure of the application and designing the interface, low fidelity wireframes were created to brainstorm and iterate on the app's core functionalities and user flows.

Visuals and Iconography

I was tasked with designing engaging visuals and characters that would bring the app to life while maintaining brand consistency. The brief emphasized a cheerful, active, and playful vibe, utilizing the brand's core color palette. I designed a comprehensive iconography system that seamlessly integrated with the app's overall visual language. This involved creating custom illustrations and animations for key features and interactions, resulting in a more engaging and memorable user experience.

I designed a few different "characters" that were in motion, or ready for movement.

To improve user interaction, I developed a custom UI elements such as a meditation dial and a specialized input graph, offering users more intuitive ways to engage with the app's core functionalities.

In the final stages of designing the visual concept I used Adobe XD to create a visually appealing and engaging user interface that reflected the app's gamified nature and scientific foundation.
